Sparkling Red Tentacles — Long, graceful glandular tentacles covered in glistening sticky mucilage that sparkle in the light and effectively trap insects.
Fast-Growing & Prolific — One of the easiest and fastest sundews to grow. Quickly forms large, dense clumps and can produce tall, elegant flower stalks with multiple pink blooms.
Beginner-Friendly — Extremely forgiving and tolerant of a wide range of conditions, making it perfect for new carnivorous plant growers.
Tissue Culture Excellence — Lab-propagated for guaranteed pest-free, disease-free plants with strong genetics and rapid establishment.
This 'Broadleaf' selection offers more visual impact and presence than the regular form while retaining the classic charm of the Cape Sundew.
Easy Care Guide for Drosera capensis 'Broadleaf'
Drosera capensis 'Broadleaf' is one of the most straightforward sundews to grow:
Light Full direct sun (6–8+ hours) or strong LED grow lights. Bright light produces the best red coloration in the tentacles and keeps the plant compact.
Water Keep the soil consistently moist to wet at all times (tray method recommended). Use only distilled water, rainwater, or reverse-osmosis water. Never use tap water.
Soil 50/50 mix of sphagnum peat moss and perlite, or pure long-fiber sphagnum moss. Good drainage while staying moist is ideal.
Temperature Thrives in warm to moderate temperatures (65–85 °F / 18–29 °C). Does not require winter dormancy and can be grown year-round.
Humidity Moderate to high humidity (50–70%+) with good airflow. Grows well in terrariums or open setups.
Feeding No supplemental feeding needed if grown where it can catch its own prey (fungus gnats, fruit flies, etc.). You may occasionally place small insects on the leaves to boost growth.
With good light and consistent moisture, 'Broadleaf' Cape Sundew will multiply quickly, often producing self-pollinated seeds and new plantlets from leaf cuttings.
